SomaticPlay(TM)

A different kind of therapy

Somatic Therapy is a way to be in the present moment by learning the language of the body through sensations. What does your body tell you when you are angry, sad, anxious or in pain? How do you know when you are safe or if you feel unsafe? These are important connections to make for learning how you feel inside and becoming unstuck.

Play therapy developed in the early 1920s-1940s by pioneers like Anna Freud, Dora Kalff, Margaret Lowenfield and Virginia Axline. Through the utilization of miniatures, sand and art it was discovered that growth and movement was possible without having to revisit traumatic events to aid and enable the healing process.

Play has been an essential part of development for over 120 million years and is vital to the learning and growing process into adulthood for every mammal.

By combining play therapy with the evolutionary biology of millions of years of mammalian instincts (somatic work) that still reside in humans today offers the chance to explore sensations and emotions in a safe way that "plays" with moving into and out of activation of the nervous system.
