How do I start the process of counseling?

Reach out through our contact page with email, call our office, or send us a text. One of our counselors will get back to you within 24 hours (48 on the weekends) to have a free consultation. We will work with you to plan how we can help support you.

What's the difference between counseling and therapy?

Counseling and therapy can be interchangeable depending on who you choose to see. A therapist is a broad term that isn't regulated by any type of credentialing agency. A counselor is required to hold a master's degree from an accredited counseling program and pass a licensing exam. Therapy or counseling can be done by a counselor, social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist. But it is all considered therapy or counseling. It is truly how you choose to address your healing process.

How long is a typical session?

Sessions can vary depending on who is going and what the treatment goals are. When I see children, the time ranges from 30-45 minutes. With adults it is typically between 50-55 minutes. Some EMDR or somatic sessions can run closer to 1 hour to 75 minutes. It is something to discuss with your counselor depending on your goals. It is important to remember that it is your session and you control how long you wish to work. If you're done after 20 minutes, you are under no obligation to remain just to make sure it has to go a certain amount of time. It is important to remember that moving slowly in and out of the therapeutic process typically will take longer than 30 minutes to ensure safely moving back into your regular day.
